I wanted to go to this rave called Defcon 5 so I called up the information line and got directions to the map point. Looking at a Thomas Brothers I discovered that the map point was in Pomona, and I live out by the beach in West LA. But some online friends managed to convince me to go; that and the fact the lineup looked fantastic made me essay the trip.
So I drive, and I drive some more, and I drive. You get the idea. At the map point I fork over my cash and the guy hands me a ticket and directions and I go on my merry way. Now I'm driving even further east. And driving. And driving.
After 15 minutes I get a bit concerned that maybe the directions are wrong, so I drive in reverse at 90mph (okay not really) back to the map point and ask. They say the event is 20 minutes away. I think for a bit and decide I don't feel like driving for 80 minutes at 6 am to get home, so I ask for a refund. They were nice enough to refund my money and I drove home, but on the way I somehow stopped paying attention and wound up on the 101 going north. So I took a detour through Hollywood back to the 10 and went home, but realized I needed to buy groceries, so I went grocery shopping instead. Elapsed time: 3.5 hours. Distance: 150 miles.
Sad.
