ONE DAY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Director Steve Beck and Rhythm + Hues Commercial Studios
Create PSA for Children’s Memorial Hospital

February 21, 2006 – Los Angeles: Director Steve Beck of Rhythm + Hues Commercial Studios recently completed a series of public service announcements for Element 79 Partners and Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. The PSAs tell the true story of a patient whose life has been profoundly impacted by Children’s Memorial Hospital.

In “One Day,” a teenage girl remembers the day she visited CMH for a recurring brain tumor. Because of that visit, her life has been extended by over a thousand days. The process that saved her life unfolds around her, like electrons circling a nucleus.

“We created a set of emotional, authentic stories, narrated by the patient whose unbelievable tale unfolds in a very unique way, along a critical timeline in a CMH patient’s life,” says Beck. “Manipulation of ‘film time’ allowed us to capture, witness and relate to the various peaks and valleys of life at its most critical, at its most fragile. At times, we told the story around our narrator at light speed, because we were illustrating what people went through. During other, more emotional moments, we matched the story’s speed to the natural speed of our narrator, in order to gather the moment’s weight.”

“It was very rewarding to collaborate on a project of this nature,” comments Executive Producer Paul Babb. “CMH is doing important work and we’re proud to be associated with both them and Element 79 Partners.”

2D effects were created using Flame compositing and roto work at R+H. John Binder at Another Country created the sound and Jonathan Elias at Elias Arts created the music. The PSA began airing in February.
