CG “Snowman” Enjoys 7-Eleven Slurpee
January 4, 2006 – Los Angeles: Director Bud Myrick of Rhythm + Hues Commercial Studios recently completed a spot titled “Snowman” for TracyLocke/Dallas and 7-Eleven. In the spot, the snowman is set in a fully CG picturesque winter environment. While drinking a 7-Eleven Slurpee, he gets a brainfreeze and turns green.
“We had four weeks from concept to completion including the Thanksgiving holiday,” says Myrick. “Knowing that we had an extremely short deadline, we leaned toward a more storybook/greeting card style rather than photorealism. Character designer/matte painter Ari Bilow created a painting that gave us the tone and feeling. We dissected his painting and used it to build simple geometry for the house and environment, and then mapped his painting directly. That saved us time in pre-lighting all of those elements and gave us the painterly/storybook feel.”
“We had a lot of fun working with TracyLocke in developing and bringing our snowman to life,” says R+H Executive Producer Paul Babb. The spot began airing in December and was recently featured in Adweek.
