SEI NAKASHIMA
DIRECTOR
Born in Tokyo, Sei Nakashima grew up in an ideal environment
in which to develop his own artistic sensibilities, surrounded
by the diverse elements of Japanese culture, from modern anime
to such traditional arts as Ukiyo-e and ceramics.
At the age of eighteen, Sei ventured to the United States
to study Communication Arts at Otis College of Art and Design
in Los Angeles, where his style came to reflect both Western
and Eastern influences. After graduation from Otis, Sei joined
Rhythm & Hues, the animation and visual effects studio,
where he became one of its leading character designers, contributing
to numerous high profile film, theme park and advertising
projects.
Sei’s credits at Rhythm & Hues include such feature
films as "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas," "MouseHunt"
and the upcoming "Dr. Seuss’ ‘The Cat in
the Hat,’" as well as Disney’s theme park
attraction "It’s Tough to Be a Bug,." Sei
has designed such lasting character icons such as Kerns' Hummingbird,
GEICO's "Gecko" and Hershey's "Bites"
among others. In addition, Sei has created production design
for film development projects with NAMCO, Fox, Square, TBS
