SOFTWARE ENGINEER – Simulation Software Engineer sought by Rhythm & Hues Studios, Inc. in Los Angeles, CA.

Duties: Analyze functional, operational, technical, and user requirements of each simulation software design project. Coordinate with Technical Directors (TDs), Digital Artists, Pipeline TDs and other software engineers to determine project specifications and propose proper development of effective software solutions. Research, design and develop core in-house dynamic and natural phenomenon simulation software systems in conjunction with hardware product development using professional-level software tools, methodologies and object-oriented C/C++ programming languages. Convert project specifications into sequences of detailed instructions and logical steps for coding. Design, code and configure software systems and models to predict and measure outcome and consequence of design. Extrapolate information on current Rhythm & Hues platforms to evaluate, analyze, and test the technical and performance capabilities and limitations of existing hardware and software systems. Conduct system testing, debugging and maintenance using diagnostic software to detect syntax or logic errors. Document the design specifications and ensure that any resulting software adheres to department standards. Work with other users to determine that the software tools and systems meet expectations, and receive on-going requests for enhancement or modification. Keep abreast of innovations and trends in computer animation, visual effects and physical simulation techniques and incorporate such knowledge in developing proprietary animation and simulation software.

Requirements: Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field, plus two (2) years of software engineering, programming or related experience, working with physical simulation techniques such as variational geometry, fluid and/or rigid body dynamics, and classical, structural and/or continuum mechanics; designing and implementing physical simulation models using advanced software design programs and software development techniques, e.g. Waterfall or Agile Scrum; and coding software programs using high-level programming languages, such as C and/or C++.
