The Character Animation Lead is responsible for the supervision of Rhythm & Hues Studios' animation team in India. In collaboration with the LA supervisor, the lead is responsible for guiding the process of choreography and performance, and delivering final animation for feature film and commercial projects.

This is an opportunity to work at Rhythm & Hues' award winning animation and visual effects facility in Los Angeles, as well as its overseas facility in Mumbai, India. Although this position is U.S. based, it requires spending a minimum of 6 months per year working in India. In the U.S., this is a swing shift position with the average workday beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Responsibilities:

• Work with animation supervisors to create convincing performances and motion of all types and styles.
• Provide leadership for the animation team including education and mentoring for animators.
• Support animation supervisors on developing project schedules and delivering shots within those schedules.
• Work with animation supervisor to assign shots to animators and ensure all relevant reference is available.
• Solve an animator's creative and technical issues.
• Create and manage a project's motion library.
• Work with the Modeling Department to ensure that models are suitable for rigging and performance needs.
• Work with animation supervisor to ensure the delivery of a rig that will meet an animator's need for control, functionality, usability and performance.
• Work with software department for the continued development of all animation tools and sessions, identify bugs, provide workarounds and suggest improvements.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Demo reel demonstrating mastery of the fundamental mechanics of animation and outstanding acting skills.
• 4+ years experience in feature film production working with 3D package (Maya preferred).
• Ability to work well in a team environment with prior experience leading teams.
• Experience working directly with clients/directors.
• Ability to perform visual and analytical problem solving in 3-dimensional space, including the ability to accurately interpret 3D layouts and analyze 3D form.
• Ability to problem solve and predict potential problems with assigned tasks.
• Must have minimum of a Bachelors degree in Art, Character Animation, Computer Animation or equivalent experience.

Desired Skills/Experience:

• Understanding of cg production process: on-set, camera work, working with other disciplines/departments.
• Experience with animation rigging including inverse kinematics techniques.
• Animation, drawing, sculpting skills a plus.
