BETSY PATERSON
- VISUAL EFFECTS SUPERVISOR
Betsy Paterson recently served as the visual effects supervisor for Rhythm & Hues’ work on the Lionsgate production of “The Hunger Games.”
Betsy has an extensive background supervising the production of animated hero characters for Hollywood movies. She served as the vfx supervisor on “Yogi Bear,” Rhythm & Hues’ first co-production with a major distributor, Warner Bros. Pictures. Prior to that, Betsy supervised a crew of 350 R&H digital artists on “The Incredible Hulk” for Marvel and Universal Pictures.
Betsy’s visual effects supervisor credits also include “Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties,” both of the “Scooby-Doo” movies, as well as “The Ring 2” and “Intolerable Cruelty.” She has also provided expert set supervision on such projects as “The Rundown” and “Elf.”
After joining Rhythm & Hues in 1996, Betsy served as lead compositor on “Mouse Hunt,” DreamWork Pictures’ first live-action release. Her rise at R&H started with 2D supervisor duties on “Babe: Pig in the City” and “The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.” She was actively involved in the development and expansion of the studio’s 2D department before being elevated to vfx supervisor on “Scooby-Doo.”
Betsy developed her extensive knowledge of compositing techniques in the mid-1990’s through her early positions at Manhattan Transfer, where she worked as a Flame artist, and later as an Inferno artist at the Computer Film Company, where she soon became the go-to digital artist for projects featuring CG characters in live action settings.
Betsy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film from Vassar College.
