LEE BERGER
- PRESIDENT, FEATURE FILM DIVISION
Lee Berger is the senior executive for Rhythm & Hues’ Film division, the Academy-Award®-winning visual effects and animation studio whose work is featured in more than 150 Hollywood movies. Lee is spearheading the studio’s effort to augment its traditional effects and animation service business model, by negotiating partnerships with major movie distributors to share the risk and reward of producing original creative content. Rhythm & Hues’ first venture in this arena is with Warner Bros. Pictures: “Yogi Bear” has grossed over $200 million (US) worldwide.
Lee’s production career spans over 30 years, including a stint as a White House cameraman. After early jobs with John Dykstra’s Apogee Productions and commercial director Bruce Dorn, Lee became a freelance visual effects producer in 1993 on “Batman Forever,” followed by assignments on “Titanic” and “Volcano.”
In 1997, he joined VIFX as VP production, and when the company merged with Rhythm & Hues in 1999, Lee was appointed executive producer of the R&H Film division, a position he held for eight years before being named president of the division in 2006.
Lee recently co-authored a chapter on Visual Effects in The Oxford Handbook of Film & Media Studies with former Rhythm & Hues Film Division President Richard Hollander. Lee is a graduate of the University of Maryland’s Radio, TV and Film program.
