Around the World in 80 Days

Filmed in Thailand, Berlin and other locations worldwide, Walden Media’s "Around the World in 80 Days," is an epic adventure directed by Frank Coraci and starring Jackie Chan, Steve Coogan and Jim Broadbent. Rhythm & Hues' Derek Spears served as the overall VFX supervisor, working alongside VFX producer Susan Zwerman. They supervised production of approximately 145 VFX shots, including location plate photography, matte painting extensions and fully 3D digital set extensions. In addition, several complex, fully digital shots that encompassed environments, oceans, boats, aircraft and digital stunt doubles were created. The digital actors and extras were realized with cloth simulation, advanced sub-surface skin rendering techniques and a combination of motion capture and traditional CG animation. After principal photography wrapped, a separate VFX Plate Unit completed CG plate and aerial work shot in Germany, Paris and London.
